Fixing a loose curtain bracket

A curtain rod bracket recently came loose out of the wall and this is how I repaired it.

I had to re-anchor this bracket onto the wall, which I knew to be dry-wall. The curtain rod isn't really heavy, however the force of dragging the curtain caused the existing anchors to wear loose over time.

The choices that I had available to me -

  • reuse existing yellow anchors
  • use larger blue anchor in the same holes
  • enlarge existing hole and install toggle bolts

I liked option number 3 - toggle bolts, as they would be the most enduring fix. However, would be a slightly tricky install with the curtain brackets because the existing brackets involve a drop in type installation. I would have needed to use a washer to ensure screw head doesn't slip through the large hole required for the toggle bolt

So, I chose option 2 - blue anchors. Installation was simple

  • remove existing yellow anchors
  • push in blue anchor which are larger hence went in some force but were snug
  • attach screw to the anchor

The anchors have teeth which let it grip the dry wall as it expands with a screw. I don't expect this solution to last forever and may end up having to use the toggle bolts or probably the large screw in type wall anchors that are commonly used for heavy frames.
